Choosing Your Wedding Cake Topper {Bride Advice}
There are so many detailed decisions to make when planning your wedding. While I didn't take part in the cake tasting, as I am gluten intolerant, my husband loved choosing the flavors for our wedding cake. Choosing the decorations and look of the cake were left up to me. I scoured the internet for hours looking for the perfect cake. I did find my cake, but what made it perfect was what was on top.
Cake toppers can be traced back to the late 19th century. However, they did not become mainstream until the 1920s. Originally, wedding cake toppers featured a bride and groom in various poses. After the wedding, the toppers were tucked away safely as a keepsake for years to come. As cake toppers became more popular in the 1900s, variations from the bride and groom theme became available. Options such as, silver bells, doves, angels, etc. were acceptable.
Today, the options for wedding toppers are as wide as your imagination. Your cake can be five-tiered or a single sheet cake, but what goes on top should be given much thought. Here are a few options to get you started.
Traditional:
The original bride and groom may be perfect for you. However, there are so many variations to choose from! You could go vintage, modern, or even use toppers that have been handed down to you from family!

Flowers:
Adding similar flowers, used in your bouquet and centerpieces, to your cake will not only tie your decorations together, but will add character to your cake. Just a word of advice, be sure the flower stems are not pushed down into your cake! The stems will leak water into your cake. Florists recommend placing the stems in tubes before they are inserted into the cake. You can ask your florist for ideas, but if you are interested in a flower top that isn't perishable, check out the Etsy shop below!
